Structural Repair and Strengthening in Vancouver
Structural problems call for more than a patch. Hirad Construction Inc is led by a civil and structural engineer, so foundation repair, concrete restoration, crack repair and seismic retrofits in Vancouver are diagnosed and built by people who understand why a structure is failing.
British Columbia is seismically active, and many older homes in Vancouver and New Westminster were built before modern seismic provisions. We assess your structure and recommend repairs or strengthening that address the cause, not just the symptom.
What’s included
- Foundation repair and underpinning
- Concrete restoration and spall repair
- Crack assessment and repair
- Seismic retrofits and structural strengthening
- Beam, post and load-path corrections
- Coordination of permits and engineering documentation
Our process
Inspection
We inspect the visible damage and the surrounding structure to understand what is happening.
Diagnosis
We identify the likely cause, such as settlement, water, overload or deterioration, and explain it in plain language.
Repair plan and estimate
You receive a repair approach and written estimate, including any engineering or permits required.
Repair and strengthening
The work is carried out with attention to sequencing, temporary support and inspections.
Review and documentation
We review the completed repair with you and hand over relevant documentation.

Structural Repair & Strengthening
Structural Repair & Strengthening: frequently asked questions
Are cracks in my foundation serious?
Not always. Thin, stable shrinkage cracks are common in concrete. Cracks that are wide, growing, letting in water, or accompanied by sticking doors or sloping floors should be assessed. An inspection is the way to tell the difference.
What is a seismic retrofit?
A seismic retrofit strengthens an existing building to better resist earthquake forces, for example by improving connections between the house and its foundation, bracing walls, or strengthening load paths. The right measures depend on how the building was constructed.
Why does it matter that the contractor is an engineer?
Structural repairs depend on understanding how loads move through a building and why something failed. An engineer-led contractor can diagnose the cause and build a repair that addresses it, rather than covering the symptom.
Do structural repairs need a permit?
Many do, particularly foundation work, underpinning and changes to structural members. Requirements vary by municipality. We confirm what is required and coordinate the permit and any engineering documentation.
Is the inspection free?
Initial consultations and estimates are free. If detailed engineering reports or testing are needed, we explain what is involved before any work proceeds.
